this is how to do a mk2 mondeo, same gearbox, so should be same setup. pull gearlever gaiter up out the way, engage neutral. then it says disconnect battery (optional), remove air cleaner assembly, then on transmission, release the adjusters on the cables by pressing tabs on the sides of the red plastic locking sliders, then insert the special locking tool to lock gearlever in neutral, then
Posted December 7, 2014. You should first remove the gear selector boot cover. Below the cover is the gear selector mechanism with the 2 shifter cables attached to it. If one of these cables came off the gear selector does not work. If this looks OK you can remove the plastic cover on the gearbox. If the cover is removed you can see the 2
I have a Focus Mk 2 (2005) 1.6 TDCi which I have had from new. Very recently I have , occasionally, been experiencing difficulty in selecting 1st and 2nd gears. It works perfectly for 95% of the time and then when I select first gear I find I am in 3rd and when selecting 2nd gear I find I'm in 4t
Now, Take out the silver plate. Step 3: Now, go to your ford f150โs underneath and find out the shift linkage along with the cable. Unusual sounds can indicate bushing problems as well. With bushings, thumping, bumping, squealing, and whirring sounds are most common. This indicates a problem with the shift linkage, and that problem could be a worn bushing. Finally, transmission fluid leaks can indicate a problem with the bushing. gear selection on all new fords is now done by cables instead of the normal rods, you will need a 3mm drill bit. Put it in neutral, unclip the gearstick cover, insert the drill bit into a little hole, there should only be one hopefully, from under the car remove the black plastic cover directly below the gearstick, there should be 2 cables, unlock the selector cable by pressing the coloured
Gear stick needs extra pressure on the lift up and down to get into reverse. If changing from 5th down, the gear stick like in other gears doesnt return to the kind off neutral point without an extra pull to the left and down extra. Not massive force but cant see whats worn out etc, without dismantling.
3. Vehicle starts in another gear. If your vehicle starts in any other gear besides park or neutral, there is a problem. It could be with the shift interlock solenoid or with the shift selector cable. A mechanic needs to diagnose this problem to differentiate between the two as they can have similar symptoms.
The gear selector shaft seal is what's causing the problem. It was leaking when I got the car so I bought a genuine Ford seal, as in the pic. This has a pressed steel houing that was a really poor fit in the machined socket in the gearbox. I tried using Loctite 638 but the gap is too big for this to cure. So, I put it in using bodyfiller (!).
